In a situation when all or several of your teeth are missing due to normal aging process or relatively early in the age, for reasons of injury, extractions due to periodontal disease, tooth decay, root canal problems, etc., you normally call up your dentist to say, “I am looking for quality dentures”. Your Dentist may suggest full or partial dentures. These are the two main types of dentures and both are finely crafted and custom-fitted at India dental clinics. If properly maintained, unlike reasons for your teeth loss, your quality dentures in India will appear natural, mimic healthy gums and provide a perfect smile. You have prominent options that include BPS Denture (BPS – Biofunctional Prosthetic System) that are new standard for excellence in removable prosthetics from Ivoclar Vivadent. The Vitallium 2000 Precise Cast Partial provide extraordinary strength and unprecedented fracture resistance while allowing for smaller, lighter, more delicate partial frameworks. And Valplast Flexible Partials are biocompatible nylon thermoplastic with unique physical properties like comfortable, light weight, flexible, natural appearance, and ideal for patients who are allergic to acrylic monomer. For full dentures, partial dentures and cast partials that fit and function exactly as you prescribed, talk to the denture specialists during your India dental tours.

Full Dentures
It is long since those full or complete dentures were introduced to replace all the missing teeth in either the upper or lower jaw. A full denture is made of either acrylic resin or also in combination with various metals, to function as replacement for missing teeth and adjacent tissues. Keeping good attention to bite details, the dentist creates complete dentures that replace all the teeth, while a partial denture fills in the spaces created by missing teeth and prevents other teeth from changing position. Full dentures fit the gum ridge, where they look and work like original teeth. Removable Complete Dentures are either "conventional" or "immediate." Within these two main categories again, there are numerous different types of dentures available. An overdenture fits over two or more natural teeth which are specially prepared or implants (implant retained overdentures) which secure the denture in place and stabilize it. Immediate dentures are placed in the mouth at the time of tooth extractions, without waiting for the gums to heal so patients do not have to be toothless.
Conventional dentures are not placed in the mouth until the gum tissue has healed following any necessary tooth extractions. The proper healing process takes about a month when a convention denture is possible to be placed. On the other hand, a temporary or immediate denture is placed as soon as the teeth are removed. Having removable dentures is probably something, which each patient would love to avoid. It is probably the most uncomfortable prosthetic device used in dentistry. The complete dentures sit on the jaw ridges. The more retentive and more stable the denture is, the more comfortable it feels. The new materials make it possible today.
There are cases when only full upper denture or full lower denture is required. The complete upper denture covers the whole palate, making an air-tight zone. In the complete upper dentures we can get a pretty good suction and retention due to the large surface area of the denture base. Nevertheless, there are some people, who have a high gagging reflex. The full lower denture is the one where most of the people have tremendous problems. The anatomy of the lower jaw does not allow us to get a good suction of the denture. The fact that the lower jaw is the mobile bone (we move it constantly speaking, eating, swallowing) and because there is not much of the attached gum on the bottom, it makes it almost impossible to get good retention on the lower jaw.
Dentists typically try to save as many natural teeth as possible because no form of artificial teeth performs as well as natural teeth. Retaining some natural teeth also enables the use of overdentures or partial dentures, which tend to be more stable and secure than conventional dentures.
The Denture Process
The denture process takes about five appointments. Before a conventional denture can be created and placed, a patient needs to have an initial consultation and evaluation by a general dentist or a prosthodontist. This will include a comprehensive dental examination and a medical and dental history. As a first step, the initial diagnosis is made; an impression and a wax bite are made to determine dimensions and proper jaw position; a "try-in" is placed to assure proper color, shape and fit; and the patient's final denture is placed, following any minor adjustments. This follows the second impressions made of hard wax to especially fit the patient's mouth. These wax impressions are cast from the dental stone that will eventually be tested with the patient to make sure for proper jaw alignment and proper fit. The wax blocks are made to record the jaw relationships, proper bite, lip support, smile line, and other important landmarks. To complete the process, the teeth are selected by size, shape and color to match the age of the patient, shape of the face, and perhaps the lost natural teeth. Denture teeth are made either of porcelain or strong acrylic (plastic) materials. A final and awkward phase starts denture wearers getting accustomed to their new teeth. To get accustomed to chewing with a new Full Denture, start with soft, easy-to-chew foods. In addition, denture wearers often notice a slight change in facial appearance, increased salivary flow (unless already suffering from dry mouth), or minor speech difficulty. The instructions as given by the dentist should be followed to avoid any gum sores.
Immediate Dentures
Often there are situations when all the patient's top maxillary and/or bottom mandibular teeth are extracted. Immediate dentures in India are a popular treatment choice for many people. In many instances the entire procedure can be completed in one day. Since each patient's healing period and ability to accommodate an immediate denture varies, the feeling of being "comfortable" will be different. When few healthy teeth still remain in the mouth, overdentures provide the right solution. In this new situation the patient is faced with healing from multiple extractions plus getting used to wearing a "plastic/acrylic" plate with teeth on it. Immediate dentures are often relined on one or more occasions with soft relines to help cushion the hard denture base against the healing extraction sites.
As a consequence of teeth extractions, the jawbone starts to remodel and shrink back a bit. Over the next year or so the jaws may resorb approximately 15-20% or more until the bone stabilizes. Since the jaw shrinks back as healing occurs, the current immediate denture will loosen up and may not be as retentive as it was at the time of original treatment. A hard reline is then done to the denture to accommodate to the new shape of the jaws. Dentists or prosthodontist or denturists may add a silicone soft base to the underside of the dentures for increased retention and comfort. It is easier for most patients to comfortably adjust to an upper denture as it has a full palate (roof of the mouth) to create a suction seal. A bottom denture has no suction seal and usually just sits on and rides the lower jawbone. Over the years the bottom jaw will lose bone due to pressure necrosis of the denture sitting on the jawbone. For increased stability in the lower jaw in particular, regular dental implants or mini dental implants can also be considered.
Partial Dentures
A removable partial denture can replace one or more missing teeth. Removable partial dentures are attached to your natural teeth with metal clasps or devices called precision attachments. It is designed specifically to meet the needs of the patient. Esthetic appearance and speech is restored along with the ability to eat confidently and efficiently.

As per the dentist advice or patient preference, partial dentures in India can be constructed out of a cast metal and acrylic composition or completely out of acrylic. The second type of removable partial dentures in India is the all-acrylic variety, sometimes referred to as an interim (temporary) removable partial denture or a “flipper”. The design process involved in creating a removable partial (denture) is specific to the patient’s needs in functional as well as cosmetic dentistry in India. Every effort is made to design a self-cleansing partial denture that preserves the remaining teeth and oral structures. Design modifications to your remaining teeth may be required to help equalize these forces. Metal partials are considered stronger structurally, thinner and more hygienic than an acrylic partial. Valplast Flexible Partials are biocompatible nylon thermoplastic material with unique physical properties. To get accustomed to chewing with a new Partial Denture, start with soft, easy-to-chew foods. The partial denture process and dentist advice are almost same as that for the complete dentures above.
You may ask India Dental Clinics dentists for the new high impact materials and life like teeth in removable complete dentures or removable partial dentures.
Care for Dentures
As a denture wearer you should know that both full and partial dentures require care when cleaning them, as these are prone to breakage when dropped. You should follow same dental hygiene with your dentures as anyone would with natural teeth. You should brush your dentures twice a day to remove food and plaque and to prevent your dentures from becoming permanently stained. It is best to use a toothbrush that is designed for cleaning dentures, but a regular, soft-bristled toothbrush is also acceptable. You can use denture cleansers or hand soap or mild dishwashing liquid, and avoid toothpastes that are too abrasive. Both partial and full dentures may lose their shape if allowed to dry out. When they are not worn, dentures should be placed in a soaking solution or in lukewarm water. Partial dentures with metal attachments could tarnish, so please check with the dentist for proper denture care methods specific to your case.
Denture Repair and Denture Relining
In the event of any damage to dentures and partials, or need relining having become loose, you should not attempt to correct personally. Dentures typically need to be relined or remade every three to five years. These may be taken to the nearest dentist for doing the needful professionally; otherwise you may end up creating new problems in the oral region.
